cWo: Then and Now

You know, with my return to the cWo, all I keep hearing is how great this “new breed” of talent is in Championship Wrestling Organization, so I decided to take a look into the past of the Cyber Wrestling Organization and see if that were so. Some people call me the “king of old school” but ya know, I’m an open minded kind of guy, so I found the top ten rankings from the cWo from over six years ago and I’m going to have a “dream card of sorts” pairing them against today’s current crop of stars. We’ll see just what is better, Old School Cyber, or modern day Championship?

The current cWo doesn’t have numerous titles like the past cWo, so people like Hardcore Champion Chad Thomas and Television champion Mavis won’t have any obvious opponents like former US champion Christian Roman (a title he won from yours truly, I might add) and then world champion Notorious JON. With that said, let’s get started.

Elite Revolution vs. WGL

For the “classic” team we’ve got the team of Devon Dice and Bryan Whing who were representing the Elite Revolution squaring off against the modern day WGL’s Devon Dice and Chandler E. Dalmon. Seems kind of funny calling them modern day considering their association with Thaddeus Walker.

Truth be told, I hated Devon Dice back then. He was a joke wrestler who lucked his way in to a few titles. However, as you can see, not much has changed, Devon always has to have someone to latch on to. In this case it comes down to who was better suited to carry Dice on their back. As much as I hate it, Dalmon is superior to Whing in every way, shape and form. Mentally, emotionally, heck even physically. This is probably the most clear cut on the fantasy card, WGL would take this rather easily.

Cypher vs. Serious

At one time they were both considered the “heroes” of the cWo. Serious still is. Chris Cypher won every title the cWo had to offer and was the only person to hold a winning record against Notorious JON, the kingpin of cWo. Serious has beaten just about every current cWo superstar including his surefire victory over Nick Dangerous at Slam in the Sand. The difference between these two would come down to focus. Cypher seemed to be at his best when there was as title on the line. Serious seems to be at his best every time the bell rings. Simply because there are no titles on the line, I’d give Serious the nod.

US Champion vs. FCUK Champion

Christian Roman and Jacob Baxter. Both had similar debuts, they came into the cWo and immediately got themselves some gold. Roman, by defeating none other than the HotShot for the now defunct TV title and Baxter by taking out cWo hero Johnny Serious. If you look at total body of work, Roman should be the favorite, but if you’re looking at a person’s career up to these chosen points (Mid 2002 for Roman, current day for Baxter) you’d have to say the “Bastard” has the better resume. Not only has he beaten Serious, but he has beaten nearly everyone he has faced…Roman had won about as many as he’d lost at this point. Once again, I’m going to have to give the nod to the current champ.

Whew, I bet you guys thought I was going to be biased, but looking at it fairly, these have been, what I think, are all accurate outcomes. Maybe round 2 will fare better for the old school guys, but I’m not so sure. Give me your thoughts, HotSpot@cwo-fed.com and be on the lookout for part 2 right before Slam in the Sand.
